Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on August 24, 1972, in Long Beach California. DuVernay lived with her Aunt Denise She encouraged DuVernay to be creative and inspired by the arts. DuVernay worked as a night nurse, allowing her mother the time she needed in her days to be able to enjoy writing, theatre and literature. DuVernay was introduced to the 1961 movie West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay discovered that art can be powerful in promoting the cause of activism. Her mother, too, was conscious of social issues and taught her to say something by using the arts. DuVernay was raised alongside her extended family at Compton she spent every summer in Lowndes County Alabama in the house of her father's family. Her father was awed by the historic civil rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the adjacent town Selma Alabama. The summers DuVernay spent there inspired her later to create a documentary on Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. as well as his Civil Rights Movement. DuVernay was awarded her graduation certificate in Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. She enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles where she earned degrees in English along with African American Studies. DuVernay began producing content for the broadcast industry while she was still in university. She was an intern with CBS News at the time of O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalls being given an assignment to watch the family home, and then looking through the garbage of one of members of the juries. Her tasks left her disappointed with journalism, and she decided to switch careers into the publicity industry. DuVernay was brought in right after graduating from college as an intern at a small studio. She was promoted to the position and set up her own public relations company called The DuVernay Agency in 1999. She also started several promotion and lifestyle networks, such as the Urban Beauty Collective. Autumn Riley.............................Autumn Riley was born in Los Angeles United States.
