Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree of English literature. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Two years later she became general reporter at NBC News in Washington. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She was part of the panel during the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's presidency. She covered many notable stories such as arm control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to many summits with the help of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
